September 24, 2012, Baltimore, MD – RLTV, the only cable network designed and built for the 50+ audience, has brought on board veteran programming executive John Ford as a programming consultant. Working closely with RLTV President and CEO Paul FitzPatrick and Senior Vice President of Programming Elliot Jacobson, Ford is advising the network on programming, content development, production and scheduling strategy.
John Ford’s career spans more than thirty years in media, including senior executive positions at Discovery Communications, National Geographic Channel and in public television. At Discovery, Ford most recently was President and General Manager of Discovery Channel – US, responsible for its creative and business strategies, including acting as Co-Executive in Charge of Production for the BBC/Discovery co-production “Life” and numerous other specials and series. He also served as the President and General Manager of Discovery Times Channel and Military Channel, and began the process of converting Discovery Times to Investigation Discovery (I.D.). Prior to returning to Discovery IN 2007, Ford was the Executive Vice President, Programming at National Geographic Channel, where he led a complete programming and ratings turnaround from 2003-2007 and was named a CableFax programmer of the year.

Prior to his career at Discovery, Ford worked for public television stations in Dallas and Philadelphia, and for public TV’s national association in Washington, DC.
Under his tenure, Ford’s channels have earned numerous Primetime and News and Documentary EMMYs and two Peabody Awards. Ford has been termed a “legendary” programmer by CableFax and honored by independent producers with their CINE Leadership Award.
