Columbia, MD – March 04, 2009 – Retirement Living TV (RLTV)’s production, in association with The Johns Hopkins University and the National Coalition on Health Care (NCHC), of the multi-part series, Healthcare ’08: Search for Solutions was honored with a Gracie Award®. Presented by American Women in Radio & Television (AWRT), the award recognized the series in the Outstanding Public Affairs Category for its superior quality in writing, production and programming.
The series made its debut in January 2008 and served as a platform for presidential candidates and other public leaders to discuss their views on potential solutions to the healthcare crisis facing Boomers and seniors in America.
“Healthcare reform is a critical issue to our audience and our close partnership with Johns Hopkins and NCHC, allowed us to develop a series that delved deeply into potential solutions said Elliot Jacobson, VP of Programming and Production, RLTV. “This is an honor that we share with our partners and our talented show moderators.”
Management of chronic illness, quality of care, and the complexity and inefficiencies in our current medical system were not being adequately discussed in the presidential election cycle, said Dr. William Brody, who at the time of the production was President of The Johns Hopkins University. “Our healthcare system requires comprehensive reform to meet the nation’s needs and we saw this series as a forum to address our concerns,” said Dr. Henry Simmons, President of the National Coalition on Health Care.
Each episode in the series consisted of an exclusive half-hour discussion with a thought-leader in healthcare policy and Dr. William Brody. Respected journalists Diane Rehm, Judy Woodruff and RLTV’s Lea Thompson, Dr. Alexis Abramson and Felicia Taylor moderated the interviews. The series launched with Republican candidate, Mitt Romney. Other guests included the CEO of AARP, Bill Novelli, Newt Gingrich, Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, the Chairman of the nation’s leading health and wellness system for seniors, John Erickson, and New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg,
