Baltimore, MD – July 18, 2009 – Retirement Living TV (RLTV), the only network dedicated to the 50+ community, salutes the timeless contribution made to journalism by Walter Cronkite, who died on Friday, July 17th at his Manhattan home. In his over six decades in radio, print, and television, Cronkite became a household name and an international media icon. During the Vietnam War and amidst criticism of American policy, President Johnson spoke of the very pervasive nature of Cronkite's work by stating "If I’ve lost [Walter] Cronkite, I've lost middle America."
To honor his legacy, beginning on Saturday, July 18th, at 11:00 pm RLTV will air "The Most Trusted Man in America," an original tribute to Cronkite, which includes his final on-air appearance. The program will repeat commercial-free on Sunday, July 19th and Monday, July 20th.
John Erickson, Founder and Executive Chairman of RLTV, developed a relationship with the legendary journalist which culminated with the creation of a series of editorials called the "Cronkite Commentaries." Cronkite is also celebrated for having been instrumental to the founding of RLTV. "We mourn the loss of Walter - not only as someone who helped create our network, but as a friend. He was an international legend who quickly became one of our most trusted sources and a mentor to us all," said Erickson. "We take great pride in the fact that we have his final moments on air - it has a bittersweet sentiment that will forever resonate."
