"A fool and his money are soon parted." That may have been true in the 1500's, but today everyone from a retired grandmother to a hotshot CEO is in danger of getting ripped off. Fraud Squad TV is the great equalizer. Enlightening viewers on how to spot and avoid scams, this investigative series examines various types of fraud including: telemarketing and home improvement scams, identity theft, pyramid schemes, mortgage cons, insurance swindles and charity rip-offs. Hosted by Tom Hnatiw and Lea Thompson, former Chief Consumer Correspondent for Dateline, Fraud Squad TV profiles both the swindlers and their unsuspecting victims as it educates viewers on how to stay one step ahead of the game.
Tom Hnatiw is a popular writer, broadcaster, producer, and television show host. A self proclaimed "car guy," Mr. Hnatiw has worked as a race announcer for just about every road racing series going. He has even driven in a few races himself, winning a Championship in 1998 with co-driver Al Ayre. Most recently Tom has served as a producer and host of Dream Car Garage, which is broadcast on Speedvision in Canada.
Lea Thompson is Chief Consumer Correspondent for NBC’s Dateline. She is known for her hard-hitting investigative pieces particularly focused on consumer, health, safety and environmental issues. Thompson's stories are responsible for legislation in California requiring all bedding and mattresses to be flame retardant and all home health aides to have background checks. Her work also brought about new warning labels on Infant Tylenol and forced Burger King to launch a clean up campaign after her Dateline story showed it to be the "dirtiest" fast food chain. Thompson's role as one of NBC's top investigative reporters has earned her major journalism accolades, including the prestigious Gerald Loeb Award.
