To most Americans Polio is a disease that was eradicated once Jonas Salk’s vaccine became available in the mid-50’s. But the threat of Polio has not really gone away. Now decades later, some polio victims who had fully recovered are finding that their old symptoms are returning decades later. To make matters worse, isolated cases of Polio are popping up again in both American children who have failed to be immunized and by American tourists who have contracted Polio during their travels. This one hour documentary revisits the height of America’s Polio outbreak. Hear from victims, survivors, and health professionals who explain why we must remain vigilant against this crippling disease.
