Joy Bauer MS, RD, CDN, is America’s favorite and most trusted nutrition expert. Bauer’s mission is to improve the health of our nation, and she believes it’s never too late or too early to reap the benefits of healthy living.
As the nutrition and health expert for NBC’s TODAY Show, Bauer shares reliable, practical, and straightforward advice that helps millions of Americans eat better and lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. She also hosts the program’s popular bi-weekly series called the “Joy Fit Club,” which celebrates determined people who have lost 100+ pounds through diet and exercise alone. Bauer’s other ongoing series include “Joy’s Diet S.O.S.”, “Joy’s Kitchen Rescue” and “Joy’s Healthy Food Finds.”
Bauer is the exclusive nutritionist for the New York City Ballet, and the author of multiple New York Times-bestselling books most recently including Slim & Scrumptious, Your Inner Skinny and Joy Bauer’s Food Cures.
Bauer is a monthly columnist for Woman’s Day magazine and a contributing editor to PARADE magazine. As AOL and EverydayHealth.com’s nutrition expert, Bauer provides the latest nutrition, health and diet-related information to millions of their online readers. She is also an associate faculty member at Columbia University.
Bauer received her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from the University of Maryland and a Master of Science in nutrition from New York University. At the beginning of her career, she completed a five-year post as Director of Nutrition and Fitness for the “Heart-Smart Kids Program,” which she developed for the Mount Sinai Medical Center’s Department of Pediatric Cardiology in New York City. Bauer also served as a nutritional consultant for the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, where she designed and supervised their ongoing research in eating disorders and weight management. In addition, Bauer served as the clinical nutritionist with the neurosurgical team at Mount Sinai Medical Center and taught anatomy, physiology and sports nutrition at New York University’s School of Continuing Education. she was also the exclusive nutritionist for New York University’s faculty, students, and athletes for several years. As the founder of Joy Bauer Nutrition, Bauer ran one of the largest nutrition centers in the country for nearly two decades.
Passionate about giving people scientifically sound health information, Bauer recently received the 2010 National Media Excellence Award from the American Dietetic Association.
Bauer lives in New York with her husband, Ian, her daughters Jesse and Ayden Jane, and her son Cole.
